Many reference materials attest to man's love of pets, but no books trace the origins of pet grooming . There are however, references that the art of grooming dates back to 4240BC. Through the decade’s pets have lived in castles with kings and queens, served in wars, worked on the farm, worked as service dogs for the disabled, as show dogs, field and hunting dogs for food and pleasure and as a pet in your home. Pictures in history do show us that grooming was taking place; we see dogs clean and well groomed. How all of this was done is unknown.

In 17th century France, the poodle was the official dog at court. The era of King Louis XV of France reveals the first official records of dog grooming parlors. Rare books of the 19th century mention dog grooming in Europe. The Book of the Dog (Vero Shaw, 1879) refers to the existence of pet grooming in England. Specific grooming recommendations such as washing, grooming, and coat conditioning occur in Ashmont's Kennel Secrets, (Boston, 1893). Pet groomers have a historical tradition of which they can be proud.

 Come See Our Photo Gallery!!

Through the years, as the grooming industry has evolved, so have groomers and the equipment that they use. I hope you welcome and admire our heritage as groomers. You've chosen a field whose history shows it as both an occupation and an art.

We value your interest in the Nanhall Professional School of Dog Grooming, and we are excited to tell you about our programs. With approximately 56 million cats and 52 million dogs in the United States, the professional groomer is in great demand. Professional dog groomers can find employment in grooming salons, kennels, animal shelters, veterinary offices, pet shops, pet suppliers and more. You would also have the opportunity to start your own grooming business and enjoy being your own employer.

Many of our graduates now own and operate their own professional grooming salons. Some of these groomers have gone "mobile" happily taking their work to the client's home. The choices are unlimited!

We also invite you to visit our school and discuss any additional questions you may have with our well-qualified staff. We are eager to invite you into a rewarding career.

Ours is a stimulating learning environment - but we pride ourselves in helping our students become:

Secure    Confident    Successful
